QUANG NAM (VNS) – The provincial Market Watch Department will tighten the control of petrol stations to make sure they do not sell illegal fuel.

Deputy Director of Quang Nam’s Market Watch Department, Le Cau, said that his department had warned and fined 64 fuel stations in 11 districts for cheating in September and October.

He said that petrol and oil were big money spinners for criminals.

Recently, a fuel station in Tuan Quyen’s Nui Thanh district allegedly sold non-standard petrol.

Consumers said that they had difficulty starting their engines with the fuel.

Tests showed that its octane rating was well below standard.

The Deputy Director said his Department had proposed the provincial authority impose a fine of VND152 million (US$7,200) on Tuan Quyen gas station.

In addition, Quang Nam’s Market Watch Department will make shopping centres, traders and producers promise not to sell products which are low-quality or from unknown-origin.

During the first 10 months of this year, Quang Nam’s Market Watch Department has carried out 2,260 inspections throughout the province, completed 1,800 cases of trade fraud and claimed a total of VND4 billion ($190,476) for the State budget. – VNS
