On October 22nd, Malala Yousafzai, the child rights activist and youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, received the US Liberty Medal.

The Pakistani teenager will be honored during the 26th annual Liberty Medal ceremony at the National Constitution Center.

The Liberty Medal is given annually to someone who “strives to secure the blessings of liberty to people around the globe.” Past recipients include Muhammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

“I’m honored to receive this medal”.

“It encourages me to continue my campaign for education and to fight for the rights of every child,” she said.

The Liberty Medal comes with a USD100,000 award, which Yousafzai said she’ll spend in Pakistan on children who need education and other support.

Earlier, on October 10, the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 was awarded jointly to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi “for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education”./.
