(CPV) – Two subsidiaries of Viettel Group, Movitel (Mozambique) and Telemor (Timor-Leste), will be awarded Gold Winner of “Fastest growing of the year in Middle-East and Africa” and Silver Winner of “Start-up of the year”, at the International Business Awards 2014 in a ceremony held in Paris (France) on October 10. Top position in the local mobile market with over 5 million users, Movitel has increased its power from 60% to 85% in coverage network and doubled from 35% to 70% in population in just only one year. Some of 600,000 local people in at least 5 rural districts enjoyed telecom services for the first time in their life. Last year’s total revenue reached USD154.5 million, in comparison with USD61.6 million by the end of 2012, creating job for around 1,970 employees. Meanwhile, since its launch in July 2013, Telemor provided mobile services to 96% of Timor-Leste population, thus balancing with subscribers that its competitor developed in the last 10 monopolized years. The mobile penetration has doubled from 30% to 60% population. Telecom services (2G/3G mobile, and Internet) are now available thanks to Telemor’s good price, wide coverage and strong supplying chain to each village, even the remote areas. After taking the very first steps in overseas telecommunications projects, Viettel shows its capacity and international experiences. So far, the military-run telecommunications group Viettel has been granted telecommunications in 9 countries with a population of over 160 million, total investment of USD1.5 billion. In which, five subsidiary companies in Cambodia, Laos, Haiti, Mozambique and Timor have provided services, while the two companies in Peru and Cameroon are expected to go into operation in October 2014. Besides, Burundi and Tanzania’s projects are developing their infrastructure system. Last year, its total revenue from overseas businesses was USD1 billion from around 11.5 million subscribers, and profit before tax totaled USD180.5 million./.
