The display is organized by the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam and the Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.

Supervised by curator Ryuichi Matsubara, the event presents works of mingei members included Kanjiro Kawai, Shoji Hamada, Keisuke Serizawa and Shiko Munakata with various materials, such as ceramics, lacquer ware, textiles, and metalwork, wood and bamboo crafts.

The event is an opportunity to discover the high level of traditional craft techniques nurtured in the Tohoku region and the functional beauty of daily implements used since ancient times in Japan.

The art and craftsmanship of these works also help visitors to better appreciate the folk wisdom derived from lives lived close to nature and the manual skills and dexterity cultivated out of that wisdom.

The exhibition will also be organized in Hanoi’s Vietnam Fine Arts Museum from December 12-22.
