Ho Chi Minh City police announced, Monday, that they had busted a gang charged with smuggling a huge quantity of methamphetamines into Vietnam from China.
Police say they caught five men red-handed with the illegal drugs in late October.
Le Duc Thich, 44, and Nguyen Xuan Dat, 30 were arrested with 1,000 pink and 11 blue methamphetamine pills, on the evening of October 28. The drugs, sold to the two men by another dealer named Vu Xuan Nhat, had been packaged for resale to smaller dealers around the city.
Police later caught Xuan Nhat, 36, with 232 grams of meth on his person the following morning. A subsequent search of Nhat’s house yielded 3.6 kilos of drugs, police said.
Nhat told police that he got into the drug business in September and had successfully completed three transactions before his arrest on October 29.
Nhat also claimed the transactions amounted to a total sale of 5.2 kilos of heroin and 1,000 methamphetamine pills, which yielded around VND2.15 billion (around US $101,000).
Police also arrested two other suspects — Nguyen The Manh, 39, and Dao Manh Hung, 44 — and seized another four kilos of methamphetamines, a car, a K59 pistol and more than VN 600 million ($28,000) from the two men’s den.
