For over 17 years of equitisation and development, Sao Mai Group has confidently emerged with the breakthrough growth both in size and operational capacity. At the time of equitisation, the charter capital of the Group was only more than VND1 billion, by the end of 2014 the total equity capital of Sao Mai and its member companies together achieves VND2,800 billion; the total assets reach its market value of more than VND10,000 billion. The rate of benefits on charter capital averagely reaches 15 percent/year; the average growth rate is 30 percent/year. Including the world economic stage of severe crisis, Sao Mai Group remains its stable performance and development. Sao Mai has become a shareholder holding 64 percent of Dong Thap Travel Joint Stock Company, while many businesses are struggling to maintain existence in a severe period of global crisis.
Development on 5 pillars
With 11 member companies, developing towards a multi-sector path, the operation of Sao Mai Group currently focuses on main areas: Construction of buildings works, architectural design, investment and business of real estate, aquaculture and processing of seafood for export, food processing and tourism business. With a strong potential and a large scale, the area of operation of Sao Mai constantly expands across the country.
In the field of real estate, Sao Mai is currently a leading investor of real estate in Mekong Delta. In An Giang Province, the Group has invested in Sao Mai High-class Urban Area – Binh Khanh 3, 4, 5 (Binh Khanh Ward, Long Xuyen City) with the scale of 150 hectares and Sao Mai High-class Urban Areas in the districts in the province with a total urban area already formed of hundreds of hectares. In HCM City, the Group has land reserves available for the investment project of Sao Mai Complex Building, Ward 6, District 8 with the scale of 18 floors including apartments, offices for rent and shopping centre.
In addition, it is worth mentioning a series of high-class urban areas which have been developed and invested for construction in Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Tien Giang, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh provinces with the total urban area up to thousands of hectares, with a total investment of more than VND20,000 billion.
Mr Le Thanh Thuan, Chairman of the Board of Management and General Director of the Group, says that through the investment in construction of projects on high-class new urban areas, Sao Mai has been positively contributing to the process of urbanisation, expanding and upgrading urban appearance, providing to the society works of technical infrastructure and social infrastructure of high quality, serving the country’s economic development and improving the quality of life of the people.
In the fisheries sector, Sao Mai is currently the Vietnam’s 5th largest enterprise which farms, processes and exports pangasius. Through a member company named IDI, Sao Mai embarked on implementing Vam Cong Industrial Park with the scale of 23 hectares (Lap Vo District, Dong Thap) to build and trade in plants related to the value chain of pangasius. In early 2008, the first factory in the industrial park is the Pangasius frozen processing factory coming into operation with a design capacity of 300 tonnes NL/12 hours per day.
With a team of highly qualified personnel; modern technological lines imported from Japan, Europe, the United States; raising zone reaching the standards and proactive in sources of materials; quality management in accordance with international standards …; pangasius products branded IDI always with good quality and stability, preferred by the consumers in the world.
The dramatic increase in customer orders, particularly in emerging markets, has brought the fisheries sector of the group an average growth of 30 percent per year. This impressive result helps IDI, only 4 years after the date of operation, enter the top 5 of pangasius exporters in Vietnam and hold this position over the years. Mr Thuan says “Certainly Sao Mai will not stop here but in the future we will continue to rise further to become a reliable address of the importers in the world.”
In the food sector, Sao Mai is currently the world’s first enterprise which successful processes high-class oil from pangasius fat (Ranee high-class fish oil). In late 2013, the first and the most modern pangasius fat refinery plant in the world of the Group came into operation with the capacity in Phase I of 100 tonnes/day. In early last November, the Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the US Pure Seafood Company to distribute Ranee high-class fish oil in the US market. With the refined fish oil processing plant, Sao Mai hopes to create a new effort to create the impetus in the future.
In the field of accommodation services, Sao Mai Resort – a 4-star resort and a regularly sanctuary for staff of multi-national groups – has contributed to bring Sao Mai brand to a new height.
Owning 76 hotel rooms, 40 luxury rooms in bungalow form, with full service items and beautiful and professional staff, Sao Mai Resort quickly becomes an interesting stop for travellers and is an ideal location for foreign experts who are investing in Vung Tau to relax to reproduce working strength after stressful working days in industrial parks.
Together with Sao Mai Resort, the Group also owns Sao Mai residential area in Long Xuyen City with a capacity of 1,000 persons, currently leased as a long-term housing area for workers. In addition, to serve the growing needs of entertainment and convalescence, the Group is implementing some new projects such as Thien Canh Son resort villas and Nui Tra Su tourist area.
Particularly in the field of construction, installation and construction consultancy, since the early years of establishment, Sao Mai has been a prominent contractor in the Mekong Delta for construction and installation of many large-scale projects, with complex technical requirements and high aesthetic level, diverse forms. The areas of operation of the Group are not encapsulated in the Mekong Delta, but also extended to the Southeast, Central and Highland provinces.
