On November 5, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) presented the credentials from Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. According to a reporter from Vietnam News Agency at the UN, during a post-presentation meeting, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that he appreciated Vietnam’s achievements in all areas, showing his pleasure with enlarging and deepening relationship between Vietnam and the UN, including the implementation of the One UN Initiative in Vietnam. The Secretary-General applauded active contributions and thanked Vietnam for its support for UN activities by effectively realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), building up sustainable development goals (SDGs) after 2015, and joining the UN peacekeeping missions. Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga thanked the UN Secretary-General for promoting the relationship between the UN and Vietnam, confirming that Vietnam was grateful for the UN effective assistance on its socio-economic development. She sent regards and best wishes from Vietnamese leaders to the UN Secretary-General, stressing that Vietnam appreciated the contributions from him to promoting sustainable development, dealing with global issues and increasing the efficiency of operations of UN organizations. She affirmed that Vietnam would continue to consistently follow external policies of independence, self-control and peace for cooperation and development, actively pushing international integration, with a priority given to multilateral external relations and relations with the UN. In the near future, Vietnam will make continued contributions to building strategies and programs of the UN, with a focus of realising SDGs and agenda for 2015, keeping regional and international peace and security, joining hands in addressing global challenges.
