Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh on November 6 made that statement in response to China’s illegal building acts on Chu Thap reef (Stone Cross).

Vietnam has full legal and historical documents to assert its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes, the Spokesman confirmed.

He added that China’s illegal activities seriously violate Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and international law, including the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues as well as altering the status quo, causing tensions, complicating the situation and having a detrimental effect on regional peace and stability.

Vietnam strongly opposes these illegal activities, asking China to respect Vietnam’s sovereignty and strictly follow the DOC.

On November 6th, 2014, representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs met representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and handed over a diplomatic note of protest./.
