Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is pleased with the growing ties between Cambodia and Thailand over the recent past, according to the PM’s spokesman.
The spokesperson said the PM made the remark during his meeting with visiting Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan in Phnom Penh on December 25.
During the meeting, Hun Sen also said the current Thai government’s efforts have brought stability in relations between Thailand and neighbouring countries.
He reiterated Cambodia’s desire to turn the border between Cambodia and Thailand into an area of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
For his part, Prawit agreed that ties and cooperation between the two neighbours would gradually improve.
Earlier, the Thai Deputy PM and Defence Minister Tea Bank held talks with Cambodian Defence Minister. The two also co-chaired the 10th meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand joint border committee, which reached agreement on increasing cooperation for security and peace along the shared borderline.
The relations between the two countries became tense between 2008 and 2011 over territorial dispute near the ancient Preah Vihear Temple.
In November 2013, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued its verdict over the case but the two nations have yet to start talks over the implementation of the ICJ’s ruling.-VNA
