PANO – Cao Bang province on December 15th solemnly organized a ceremony to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and 25th anniversary of whole people’s defence day, and announce Tran Hung Dao forest’s recoginition as a special national relic site. The event was attended by State President Truong Tan Sang.

On December 22nd, 1944, as instructed by President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) was founded in Tran Hung Dao forest in Tam Kim commune, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province. Of the first 34 soldiers of the army at that time, 25 were from ethnic minorities in Cao Bang. Three days after its establishment, with ingenuity and couragousness, 34 soldiers attacked Phai Khat and Na Ngan posts, destroying or caputuring all the enemy in the posts, seizing weapons and military equipment. The victory started the “Determine to fight – Determine to win” tradition of the VPA. Under the leadership of the Party and Uncle Ho, the VPA has strongly developed, winning glorious victories for national independence.
Ha Ngoc Chien said that the province has obtained remarkable achievements in different fields while ensuring local political security and public order. Together with socio-economic development, the province has paid attention to building the comprehensively strong armed forces via military and defence dissemination and education programs to raise their awareness of military and defence work.
Senior Colonel Hoang Van Huu, Deputy Commander of the provincial Military Command, said that the enlistment has been supported by local party committees, authorities, organs and people, becoming a cultural feature and fine tradition of people in the province.
In acknowledgement of contributions of the province’s party committee and people, the Prime Minister on December 9th, 2013 signed the Decision recognizing Tran Hung Dao forest as a special national relic. At the event, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son handed over a recognition certificate to the province. |
