Nguyen Tran Huyen My performs at the swimsuit round of the Miss Vietnam 2014 contest’s final night in Phu Quoc Island district in the southern province of Kien Giang on November 6, 2014
The first runner-up of recently-concluded Miss Vietnam 2014 was summoned to meet the contest organizers on Tuesday afternoon after photos purportedly showing her performing lingerie in a bar hit the Internet.
Nguyen Tran Huyen My, 19, of Hanoi will have to answer whether these photos belong to her, the organizers said.
Miss Vietnam, the country’s most well-known beauty contest, wrapped up in the tourism-haven island of Phu Quoc on Saturday, December 6, with the crown being awarded to Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, an 18-year-old college freshman from the northern province of Nam Dinh.
But just after Duyen was crowned, many netizens said that she is not beautiful enough to win the beauty pageant and claimed that Huyen My should have been won instead.
Huyen My was named the first runner-up and the Most Beautiful Girl in Evening Gown of the pageant.
They then said they were so disappointed in My after a series of photos purportedly showing her performing lingerie in a bar spread online like wildfire from Sunday.
My, meanwhile, said those photos weren’t of her.
The biennial Miss Vietnam contest was initiated and has been held by Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper since 1988. Winner of the contest will represent Vietnam at international beauty contests including Miss World.
