(VOV) -New American ambassador Ted Osius clearly isn’t one for stuffy diplomatic receptions.

Instead, he has decided to introduce himself to his new posting through a folksy YouTube video in which he speaks fluent Vietnamese.

Ted Osius described President Obama’s decision on nominating him to become the new US Ambassador to Vietnam as a dream come true.

He said in 1996 he had the honour to go to Vietnam to help the first Ambassador, Pete Peterson as he laid the foundation for the new relationship between Vietnam and the US.

During that time he travelled all over Vietnam, from North to South, passing through Hue, Danang, Hoi An, and Nha Trang.

Ted Osius said he is looking forward to biking through Vietnam again to reconnect with people who welcomed and shared their stories with him.

The Ambassador quoted Secretary John Kerry as saying, “a Vietnam that is strong, prosperous and independent, and that respects rules of law and human rights was, is and will be an indispensable friend of the United States.”

Ted Osius expressed his wish to advance the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership by encouraging more student exchange and more collaboration on health and environmental challenges.

The US Senate on November 17 confirmed Ted Osius as ambassador to Vietnam after President Barack Obama nominated him for the position in May.
