The Hanoitimes – Vietnam’s exports to Mexico jumped 13% on-year tallying in at US$1.68 billion and the second largest Latin American country became the leading importer of Vietnamese rice, reports the Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE).


Meanwhile Mexico’s exports to Vietnam surged 35% to US$142 million resulting in a record setting US$1.54 trade surplus.


Vietnam’s exports to the Latin American market for the year were footwear, telephones and accessories, computers, electronic products, seafood, garments and textiles, transport vehicles, machinery and coffee.

Viet Hoang Tuan, from the Vietnam Embassy in Mexico said the impressive result is thanks to great efforts of domestic enterprises, the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), and the cooperative efforts of the two sides’ embassies.


Mexican businesses pledged to seek new outlets in the Vietnamese market with the support from the Vietnam Embassy and expressed hope that Vietnam will become a gateway for them to get a toehold in Southeast Asia.


The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that in recent times, Vietnam has exported some products to Mexico, including garment, computers, electronics and components, seafood and coffee.


Two-way trade turnover between the two countries in 9 months ending September rose by 45% to US$986 million compared to the same period last year.
