DA NANG (VNS)— A groundbreaking ceremony for the Ha Noi-HCM City Railway Line Bridges Safety Improvement Project was held on Thursday in central Quang Ngai Province.

The project includes construction of six bridges, at Cai Tho, Tra Bong, Bau Au, Nghia An, Song Ve and Song Thoa, at a total cost of VND650 billion (US$31 million).

According to Yoshitaka Komuro, a contractor with Tekken Corporation, the project, which is being paid for by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), seeks to ensure safe operating conditions exist on the North-South railway system.

The project will include building bridges and approaches, creating level crossings with barriers and automatic warning systems, and underpasses with box types at the approaches of bridges.

The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2016. — VNS
