The Hanoitimes – On January 28, a workshop on cooperating the management of destinations in the Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang, Kien Giang and Can Tho was held in Phu Quoc island, Kien Giang province, aiming to promote tourism cooperation in the region.
The workshop was co-chaired by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Program funded by the European Union.
Addressing at the workshop, Robert Travers, an international expert on destination of the project said: The main challenge of these destinations is the period of staying of visitors is very short (only one night). Tourists just consider this as an attraction in their journey, not rather see it as a destination to discover.
To solve these problems, he said it is very neccesary for the national management agencies and enterprises jointly planning to develop market- oriented tourism.
Besides, the State closely cooperates with the Mekong Delta to develop special and unique tourism centres. The Vietnamese tourism need to build the Mekong Delta becoming a different destination in the nation.
Participants at the seminar also proposed to improve the quality of resorts and accommodation facilities along the river, improving the quality of agri-tourism, particularly fruit gardens.
At the conference, representatives of the three provinces signed a cooperative agreement on tourism development in the area of the Mekong Delta.
