PANO – About 1,000 youths took part in the 2015 Tet tree planting festival launched on February 26th (the eighth day of the first lunar month) at the General Vo Nguyen Giap’s tomb in Quang Binh province and Truong Bon Historic Site in Nghe An province.
Addressing the event, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Dac Vinh urged all youth union members to promote their role in planting trees, protecting the environment, safeguarding freshwater resource, and coping with climate change, contributing to fulfilling the Resolution of the 10th National Youth Union Congress and developing activities to welcome Party congress at all levels to be organized this year.
For their part, each youth was committed to grow and tend at least a tree and each youth union would take care of one orchard.
After the launching ceremony, participants planted 120 trees along the road leading to the general’s tomb, and another 3,500 trees along the nearby coast. Besides, they also cleaned the surrounding environment and presented 20 gifts to local needy children.
The same day, a similar activity was also held at Truong Bon Historic Site in Nghe An province with the participation of thousands of local people.
Another tree planting festival will also be launched on February 28th at Kim Binh Historic Site in Chiem Hoa district of Tuyen Quang province.
