The book in German, Vietnamese and English features 600 photos by 18 local and international photographers, which show Hanoi’s history and urbanization.
In addition to notes about life, transportation, culture, infrastructure, education and religions, there are a number of write-ups by city residents whose views depict a multidimensional picture of Hanoi.
Dr. Michael Waibel is now researching, teaching and carrying out projects on urban development at the Institute of Geography under the University of Hamburg in Germany. In early 2014, he collaborated with Henning Hilbert, lecturer at the Vietnamese-German University, to publish a photo book entitled Ho Chi Minh City: MEGA City.
The two books are the outcome of many years of his scientific research in Vietnam since the 1990s. These works are supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Goethe Institut.
