HCM CITY (VNS)— A two-hour power failure caused by an incident on the 500kV north-south transmission line hindered road traffic in many southern provinces and HCM City yesterday afternoon.
Power supply failed when an operating crane hit the Di Linh-Tan Dinh transmission line at 2.20pm in the new urban area in southern Binh Duong Province, the Electricity of Viet Nam said late yesterday afternoon.
Traffic lights on streets did not work, and many factories and State agencies suffered work interruptions because of a lack of electrical power.
In HCM City, major traffic jams occurred at numerous crossroads and intersections, including Dien Bien Phu – Pasteur; Phan Van Tri – Nguyen Oanh; and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai – Cach Mang Thang Tam.
Viet Nam News reporters based in the Mekong Delta said most workers at industrial parks in Can Tho fled to the streets because of the heat in their factories.
According to Electricity of Viet Nam’s Southern Power Company, the power failure affected all southern and Mekong Delta localities.
Nguyen Anh Vu, head of the HCM City Power Company, said power supply in HCM City resumed at about 4:00pm. —VNS
