The Ha Tinh Federation of Labour on Monday donated schoolbags that could be used as lifejackets to 500 students in the province’s flood-prone areas. The bags are expected to protect the children from drowning during the flood season.

The People’s Committee of Dong Thap has approved a VND208 billion (US$9.9 million) project to enhance protection of the 7,313ha Tram Chim National Park in the Mekong Delta Province by 2020. The project aims to preserve and protect the unique wetland ecosystem and rare fauna and flora found in the park. The park became the fourth one in Viet Nam to be listed under the Ramsar Convention last year.

City changes train departure times


From June 1, the Saigon Railway Station will change the departure times of several trains to meet increasing travel demand during the summer, according to the station’s deputy director, Thai Van Truyen. The SE5 and SE6 trains will depart at 9am instead of the current 3:45pm; TN1 and TN2 trains will leave at 12:20pm instead of 10:05am; and SE22 will depart at 12:20am instead of 1:10pm.

Nine provinces allowed to exploit timber


The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has allowed the exploitation of 70,200 cu.m of timber from natural forests in nine provinces – Nghe An, Quang Binh. Thua Thien-Hue, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Dak Nong. The ministry prohibits timber exploitation in protected forests.


The timber exploitation in natural forests will have to be completed before December 31.

City to build new wharfs for river


HCM City will build 18 new wharfs by 2015 to serve river tourism, according to a Transport Department proposal submitted to the People’s Committee recently.
