Midfielder Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet needed only five minutes to score her opening goal to take Vietnam to a 1-0 lead over Hong Kong. In the two previous matches, it had taken her only three minutes to get on the score sheet – including her hat trick in the demolition of Kyrgyzstan.
Captain Le Thi Thuong doubled Vietnam’s advantage two minutes later before Cheung Wai Ki made an own goal to give Vietnam a three-goal lead before the break.
In the 57th minute, midfielder Tran Thi Kim Hong finalized the match result with a goal to seal it 4-0. With the results, Vietnam scored a total of 24 goals in three games to top the table with nine points, followed by Hong Kong, host Bahrain and Kyrgyzstan.
Vietnam will join other group leaders Thailand and Myanmar in the finals. Group A, with Uzbekistan, Jordan, Lebanon, and Kuwait, will start their round on June 5.
The four group leaders will face four automatic qualifiers — including Australia, Japan, China, and South Korea — to play in the eight -team final to compete for the top five places to head to the Women’s World Cup in Canada in 2015.
