Exhibition features ASEAN cultural heritage space

(VOV) – An exhibition on Vietnam and ASEAN cultural heritage space opened on June 21 in the UNESCO World Heritage ancient city of Hoi An in Quang Nam province.


The opening was attended by 200 artists and actors from Southeast Asian nations, the Republic of Korea, Japan and 22 provinces and cities in Vietnam that have natural and cultural heritage sites recognized by UNESCO.


Installations introducing the culture of Vietnam and other ASEAN nations are being showcased in 16 ancient houses along the Hoai River.

Intangible cultural heritage, handicrafts and cultural and tourism products from each region are on display and folk games and traditional festivals are also scheduled.


Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai said that the participation of numerous international delegations representing diverse cultures illustrates the dynamism and solidarity of ASEAN nations.

The event is part of the fourth Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013, which aims to honour and promote Vietnam’s cultural heritage and tourism potential to international friends, and respond to the UNESCO Development and Culture Week.


It also offers a good opportunity for nations to strengthen cultural exchanges and mutual understanding in the region, said Deputy Minister Ai.

A night re-enacting life in Hoi An during the early 20th century also took place featuring the towns famous lanterns and traditional folk games.
