HA NOI (VNS)— The HCM City’s People’s Committee has asked its 24 districts to ban shops selling substandard motorbike helmets by the end of the year.

The committee is particularly referring to vendor shops encroaching on streets and pavements to openly sell the deadly “safety” gear..

The committee also urged market-watch forces to co-operate with agencies to inspect helmet production and trading establishments in the city.

According to local authorities, there are 700 helmet trading establishmentsm including nearly 200 shops doing business on streets and pavements in the city’s centre and outskirts.

In the first half of the year, HCM City’s Market Watch Department has made 280 inspections and seized more than 11,200 made-in-China, illegally imported – and dangerous – helmets. – VNS
