The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has said it will look into the scenes which apparently advertise brandy brands in celebrated singer Ho Ngoc Ha’s music video titled “Cam on Cha” (Thanks Dad).

The music video, which features Ha and ten other V-pop singers and models including Thanh Hang, Doan Trang and two VMusic members, and their intimate moments with their fathers, has emotional lyrics, a good melody and nice camerawork. It is considered a meaningful gift for fathers for the upcoming Father’s Day, June 16.

However, the video has two versions. The version Ha sent to press agencies only features a few quick glimpses of the brandy bottles which the singers give their fathers.

Meanwhile, a longer video recently launched on YouTube and some music websites has several scenes which capture the singers holding bottles of brandy and glasses, and even provides close-ups of the brandy brands.

The full version is being targeted for covertly advertising brandy, which is prohibited under Vietnamese law.

According to Vo Trong Nam, the department’s deputy head, on June 10, as the full video version is released online only, they’ll decide if Ha will be penalized pending the conclusion from the city’s Department of Information and Communication.

Nguyen Van Khanh, from the department, told Tuoi Tre that his department needs time to scrutinize the case.
