Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy presented the medal to British Council VIetnam director Robin Rickard On June 19, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Education and Training presented the medal for the cause of education to Mr Robin Rickard, director of British Council Vietnam, marking his successful four year term in Vietnam and the 20th anniversary of British Council in Vietnam.
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy announced the decision of the ministry and presented the medal to Mr Rickard before the witness of British Ambassador in Vietnam, Dr. Antony Stokes, representatives from departments in the Ministry of Education and Training, British Council and reporters.
Robin Rickard start his term as director of British Council Vietnam in August 2009. He is the representative for the United Kingdom to coordinate cooperation activities in education in the framework of strategic partner cooperation between the United Kingdom and Vietnam. With this position, he was successful in building and developing cooperation relations with many educational organizations, enterprises and international organizations to support priorities in education and development in Vietnam.
One of the greatest achievements made by Robin Rickard is to successfully build cooperative relations with Project 165 of the Party Central Committee, teaching English to more than 1,600 key cadres in Vietnam to prepare for training and professional development in foreign countries. Now, each year, the programme provides English training courses to more than 600 cadres.
Robin Rickard also led in the project to establish British University Vietnam in the central city of Da Nang. He is also the pioneer in the initiative to establish the Network of UK-Vietnam Universities.
The medal is the highest honour awarded by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam to recognize individuals who made important contributions to the country’s education. The award was given to Robin Rickard a few days before his departure from Vietnam, to take on the new post of Country Director in Jordan./.
