Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first six months of 2013 was estimated to grow 4.9 percent, nearly equivalent to last year’s figure, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s report.
Of which, the agriculture-forestry-seafood sector enjoyed a GDP growth of 2.07 percent; industry and construction, 5.18 percent; and services 5.92 percent.
The report also says that the country’s GDP growth in the second quarter of 2013 was 5 percent, up 0.24 percent against the first quarter.
Although GDP growth rates in the second quarter and the first six months were not as high as expected, they were appropriate in the context of difficulties in the domestic and global economies, it says.
According to the Ministry, the industrial production has improved as inventories are decreasing. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased month-on-month to hit 5.2 percent in the first six months.
In addition, the business development has seen positive signs in the above-mentioned period with the number of newly registered businesses up 7.8 percent. About 9,300 enterprises resumed their operations after halts.-VNA
