A book that focuses on cooperation for the sake of development in territorial waters in international law and reality made its debut on Tuesday.

Compiled by Dr Nguyen Ba Dien, director of the Centre for the Sea and International Marine Law, the book provides readers with a scientific basis for joint exploitation at sea and in the East Sea and an overview of cooperation in jointly exploiting territorial waters.

The book is considered as one of the efforts by the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications in the building of a document system guiding the media and public opinion, and popularizing the management, protection and development of Vietnam’s sea and islands.

The book analyses the actual situation of demarcation and the solutions to resolve disputes for development between countries in the world together with a number of recommendations for Vietnam.

It also features joint exploitation models in the world, experience in entering into joint exploitation agreements, and the application of these models in the East Sea.

The book is expected to support Vietnam’s enforcement of sea law in order to defend national sovereignty, sovereignty rights and jurisdiction in the East Sea.

Media agencies can also refer to more than 1,000 pages of documents translated into English and Chinese relating to sea and island sovereignty on the Authority of Foreign Information Service’s website www.vietnam.vn.
