VOV wins two top national press prizes

(VOV) – Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) earned two of the five “A” prizes for journalistic works from the 1,450 entries sent to the National Press Awards at an awards ceremony in Hanoi on June 21 to mark the 87th anniversary of Vietnam Revolution Journalism Day.


The 7th National Press Awards received 1,450 entries, the most it has ever received, from 59 of the 63 provincial and municipal journalists associations and central media agencies across the country.


In addition to the two “A” awards, VOV also achieved two “B”, three “C” and three consolation prizes.

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) Thuan Huu said the 7th National Press Awards reflected the country’s major political events in 2012 objectively and comprehensively, as well as socio-economic development, defence and security issues.


The entries also highlighted exemplary role models, poverty reduction achievements and efforts to deal with the consequences of natural disasters, as well as environmental protection and the fight against corruption and the schemes of hostile forces.


In his speech at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted the contributions the Vietnamese press has made to the country’s achievements and congratulated Vietnamese journalists on Press Day, describing them as steadfast soldiers on the ideological and cultural fronts.

He called on the press to strongly criticize social evils such as bureaucracy, corruption and wastefulness while directing Party organizations, central ministries and sectors to pay due attention to the media and build a strong contingent of media workers.
