HA NOI (VNS)— The press, including radio broadcasting, needed to stay active, creative and co-operative to satisfy demand for a wide range of information, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Dung was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2013 Radio Asia Conference, the only broadcasting event of its kind in the region, hosted by Radio the Voice of Viet Nam (VOV) and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in Viet Nam.
He said his Government had forged the development of national broadcasting by modernising technology, using digital applications – and becoming more professional to satisfy local and international demand for information.
Dung praised the Vietnamese broadcasting sector for contributing to the country’s socio-economic development and enhancing the spiritual and cultural life of the people, especially those in far-flung areas and islands.
The three-day event has brought together about 500 delegates from the Asia Pacific and beyond, including leading broadcasters, communications specialists, policy makers and academics.
Initiated by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in 2006, the annual RadioAsia conference, has been hosted in many countries, including Singapore, Malaysia , India and Indonesia. — VNS
