A festival based on popular Vietnamese and Japanese comic books will be held for children this weekend in downtown Hanoi.

Titled Comic Books and My Childhood, it will be held at the Children's Culture Palace, 36 Ly Thai To Street, on July 27 and 28.

Complete collections of comic books from the two nations published since 1990s will be on display. Cartoons inspired by the comic characters will also be screened free.

Vietnamese painter Nguyen Thanh Phong, who is well known for illustrations, will also meet fans.

Various folk games and dances such as yosakoi and flashmob will stir the atmosphere. Participants will feast on food from both Japan and Vietnam.

The final round of a cosplay contest, titled Earth Heroes, where young people disguise themselves as characters from manga and comic books, will also be held.

The event is a part of a series of cultural activities to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
