President Morsi on Tuesday rejected an ultimatum by the Armed Forces asking him to find a solution to Egypt’s political crisis and said he will pursue his own plan for national reconciliation. Morsi said the army’s ultimatum could worsen the current situation. On Monday, the army gave Morsi 48 hours to “meet the demands of the Egyptian people”. The Army also announced a roadmap for the future and measures that will be implemented if the demands are unmet. The same day, an Egyptian appellate court reinstated former Prosecutor General Abdel-Maguid Mahmoud, who was dismissed last November. The former Prosecutor General was a source of conflict between President Morsi and the Egyptian justice system. This move further isolates President Morsi, who is facing huge pressure from millions of Egyptians protestors demanding his resignation. A number of ministers recently resigned.
