The FamilyMart store at Sky Garden apartment building at 20 Le Thanh Ton Street now is in the process of upgrade and will officially resume operation on July 30, said Kigure Takehiro, chairman of Vietnam Family CVS Co. Ltd.

According to Takehiro, his company will open three more FamilyMart stores in HCMC between now and August 10, one near Le Thi Rieng Park in District 10, one on Phan Van Tri Street in Binh Thanh District, and the other in Riverside Residence in District 7. The firm is looking to open a total of 20 stores before the end of this year.

Seeing Vietnam as a highly-potential market, FamilyMart has set a target of becoming the leading convenience store chain in the country in the next five to ten years.

As for the current legal entity operating the FamilyMart store chain, Takehiro said Vietnam Family CVS Co. Ltd. as a local enterprise will develop the retail system under a franchise deal with FamilyMart.

FamilyMart now is looking for a local partner to set up a joint venture to develop the convenience store system, Takehiro informed. The target partner should have a profound knowledge of the local market and is capable of seeking retail spaces swiftly as well as handling matters relating to procedures and working with competent authorities, he remarked.

“We are still looking for the partner. We don’t set any specific target as we want to study well before setting the business tie-up. Upon the joint venture’s establishment, we will consider the relationship with the present franchising company,” he told the Daily.
