A corner of Kenh Dong water plant (Photo: VNA) (CPV) – In the morning of July 8, Kenh Dong water plant in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City, was put into operation with capacity in the first stage of 200,000 cubic meters/day.
Kenh Dong water plant will supply clean water for people in the districts of Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan and district 12.
Construction of the plant started in 2006 with a total investment of nearly VND1,300 billion. All treated water is sent through a 12km conduit from Kenh Dong water plant in Cu Chi district to the water tank at Tan Hiep water plant in Hoc Mon district for distribution to people.
The operation of Kenh Dong water plant and other water plants in the city, such as Tan Hiep, Thu Duc and Hoc Mon, will supply clean water to people in the city with a total capacity of 1.7 million cubic meters/day.
According to the Kenh Dong Water Supply Joint Stock Company, in the coming time, the plant will continue to run at capacity of 50,000 cubic meters to supply clean water for Tay Bac urban area and four key industrial zones in Duc Hoa district, Long An province.
The water input source is from Dau Tieng Lake. It is estimated that the city’s demand for clean water will be nearly 2.8 million cubic meters/day in 2015, and will increase to nearly 3.8 million cubic meters/day by 2025.
The water sources for Ho Chi Minh city are mainly the Saigon river, Dau Tieng lake, Dong Nai river and Tri An lake, supplemented by underground water sources./.
