Two people were found dead and one is still missing following a fight between farmers over clam farming areas in Thanh Hoa Province on July 7.
Around 60 people were from Quang Nham Commune and arrived on 30 rafts and boats while Hai Chau Commune had around 20 people with various kinds of weapons, from bricks, sticks to knives ready on motorised boats and rafts.
These farmers have been in disputes over clam raising and exploiting areas on Yen River. Though the disputes are not new, the local authorities were unable to resolve the matter quick enough.
After the fight, three people fell into the river and went missing, including two people from Tinh Gia District and one farmer from Quang Xuong. In addition, eight people were transferred to hospital in critical condition.
On July 8, two bodies which were identified as Tinh Gia District farmers had been found. The other is still missing.
Colonel Nguyen Van Binh, head of Police Department in Thanh Hoa Province said this is a complicated case and they are expanding the investigation.
