BTO- Export markets including Japan, European and then South Korea all are doing tests for Enthoxyquin residues in shrimp to different extent that make a massive of Binh Thuan’s exporters send samples to Binh Thuan Center for Standards , Metrology and Quality for Inspection. Shrimp product is getting fine Right after the announcement of Japan about the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) in shrimp imported from Vietnam of below 0.01mg/kilogram (5/2012), almost all of Binh Thuan’s fishery exporters became paused in transaction, especially in shrimp export. Since then, Binh Thuan Center for Standards, Metrology and Quality (Belong to Branch for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Binh Thuan province) has received many samples of shrimp from enterprises. In the second half of 2012, more than half among 900 samples reached an excess of 0.01mg/kilogram of Ethoxyquin residues. Thus, enterprises flexibly managed the qualified product to Japan and exported the rest ones with high Enthoxyquin residues to other markets.
Actually, in Jan 2013, South Korea has imposed the MRL on imported shrimp exactly the same as Japan’s regulation. So, over the several months, a number of big enterprises in Binh Thuan such as Hai Tien Co.,Ltd, Thong Thuan Co.,Ltd, Binh Thuan Import- Export JSC (Thaimex), Hai Nam Co.,Ltd, Hai Wang Seafood Co.,Ltd have sent aquatic samples including many shrimp samples for testing Enthoxyquin residues. In the first half of this year, the total quantity of samples delivered to the testing center touched nearly 1,200 pieces. Common order is typically testing Enthoxyquin residues in shrimp from many enterprises, averagely 150 pieces per month. Most of the samples show up the Enthoxyquin residues below 0.01mg/Kg, but 12 pieces. The result has proved that enterprises have been strictly controlling the quality of shrimp from raw material to finished product so that the Enthoxyquin residues, available in feed (If shrimps are not fed before harvested, all substances in feed will be eliminated), are reduced.Exact evaluation on quality Despite not as much as shrimp in quantity, samples of other products as squid, dragon fruit are also provided for the testing center prior to oversea delivery. Inspections are carried out on octopus with Chloramphenicol residues, on Dragon fruit with growth regulator (GA3) and other ingredients in mass like Deltamethrin, Permethrin… or restricted substances available in seafood products. Now, enterprises are getting more confident on exportation to strict markets all over the world.
As an evident, several big and small exporters both in Binh Thuan and other provinces like Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa have brought their samples to this center for testing because of its well-equipped lab with modern micro-analysis including inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy ICP-OES, Gas chromatography GC/MS/ECD/FPD, High pressure liquid chromatography HPLC, Quadrupole Liquid Chromatography – Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS/MS)… Moreover, instead of sending samples to further destination in Ho Chi Minh city, the testing center in Phan Thiet has lots of upper hand including time and cost saving and correct evaluation on the quality of product at first and foremost. Thereby, enterprises and inspection organizations will have good management on product quality, enhancing their competitive positions in market.
The Biological-Chemical Laboratory belonging to Branch for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Binh Thuan province, where all the sample agricultural and aquatic products are tested, has been approved of lab’s quality management system ISO 17025:2005. It is at the same time assigned as the Laboratory division of Agricultural and Rural Development industry by the Ministry of Agricultural and rural development via code LAS-NN 39.My Thien (Source: Binh Thuan Newspaper)
