Award ceremonies will take place at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi and the Majestic Hotel Saigon on August 3.
Nguyen Manh Cuong, master of public administration of Northumbria University in Newcastle, won first prize in the writing category, describing his emotions and memories of a trip from London (England) to Edinburgh (Scotland). Cuong won a round-air ticket between Vietnam and the U.K.
In the photo visual category, there was no first prize but the second prize, an iPad mini, went to Nguyen Viet Hieu, post-graduate student of the finance-banking major of Leicester University for his movie about how he adapts to student life in the U.K. and his love for his second home.
Third prize winners will receive coupons for tours in Vietnam worth VND10 million. Consolation and style prizes are worth VND4 million each.
“The similarities of all the entries show contestants’ love for the U.K and their aspiration to introduce the education, people and culture [of the U.K.] to their relatives in Vietnam. It’s really hard for the judging panel to choose winning works as they all have good quality,” said Ian Robinson, acting director of the British Council in Vietnam, in a statement.
The contest, which aimed to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the U.K. and the 20th anniversary of the British Council in Vietnam, attracted 66 entries.
It was jointly organized by the British Council and U.K. Alumni Association in Vietnam (UKAV), the Vietnamese Students’ Association in the U.K. (SVUK) and Vietnamese Professionals in the U.K. (VietPro).
