Fifteen US senators and 45 Congressmen have written to US Trade Representative Michael Froman, urging him to rescind the tax on leather shoes imported from Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP) nations, including Viet Nam.
Vietnamese leather shoes exported to the US now attract a 57.4 per cent tariff.
In the first six months of this year, Viet Nam’s exports of these shoes were worth US$4.8 billion, a 16.4 per cent increase from the same period last year.

Ha Noi to set up hotline for tourists
The Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will set up an information hotline for tourists next month.
It will provide information about culture, history, traffic, markets, destinations, food, entertainment, shopping, action by relevant authorities about complaints and coping with problems while in the country.

Transport prices set to climb on fuel hikes
The Viet Nam Automobile Transport Association has warned that transport operators cannot maintain current prices due to the relentless rise in petrol prices, and said the rates could rise by 5-7 per cent.
Since June petrol prices have been revised upward three times.
Fuel is estimated to make up 45 – 50 per cent of cost for transporters.
