PANO – The High Command of Border Guards of Vietnam and the Border Control Department of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security should raise awareness of the two countries’ people and armed forces on their responsibility to build a peaceful, friendly and, stable Vietnam-China border.

This was stated by General Phung Quang Thanh, Vietnamese Minister of National Defence, at the reception given to the visiting delegation from the Chinese Border Control Department, led by its director, Major General Wu Dong Li on July 26th at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The Vietnamese Defence Minister spoke highly of the effective cooperation between the two nations’ border forces over the past time, especially in border management and protection, entry and exit control and crime prevention and asked the two sides’ border forces to continue cooperating closely in entry and exit management and crime prevention to ensure order at the common border areas.

For his part, the Chinese general hoped that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence would create more favourable conditions for the two countries’ border forces to beef up their friendly cooperation in the spirit of mutual trust and understanding, to enhance coordination mechanism and to promote joint patrol work.

Earlier the same day, Major General Wu Dong Li and Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet, Commander of the Vietnam Border Guards co-chaired a conference to review the cooperation against illegal entry and exit at Vietnam-China borders.

At the conference, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the “MoU on establishing border cooperation mechanism at three levels between the High Command of Border Guards, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the Border Control Department, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security”. They also informed each other on the illegal entries and exits since the beginning of this year, analyzed situations at borders and reviewed the two countries’ border forces’ achievements in preventing this situation.

After discussion, the two sides agreed to boost border management, information exchanges and closely cooperation in preventing illegal entries and exits and to build a peaceful border by boosting exchanges at grassroots units of border forces and friendship between the two sides’ border guard forces.
