(CPV) – The 4th phase of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) program in Vietnam was launched at the 6th Vietnam Research and Education Network (VinaREN) conference in Hanoi.

This national event was part of the TEIN4, endorsed by Asian and European Heads of States at the Asia-Europe Meeting 8 (ASEM) in Brussels in October 2010.

Accordingly, from July 5, researchers and educators across Asia-Pacific will benefit from the 4th phase of new TEIN high-capacity research and education data-communications network.

The four – year project, worth of EUR16 million and financed by the European Union and other Asian partners, will support crucial collaboration between research centres, educators and students across the region and the globe, in fields that bring high social benefits, such as telemedicine, e-learning, natural disaster warning and crop research.

A number of other project partners are also involved in providing broad-band networks, making TEIN4 become the largest international research network in Asia.

“The launching of the 4th phase of the TEIN program has opened a new stage of prosperity for Asia and Europe. For the last decade, TEIN has extended with more participating countries and has become the leading research and education network in Asia and Europe. Researchers and educators in the region are connected with each other by the physical link and social networking, having further opportunities to share experiences. The program will also provide much faster speed and stable connections via VinaREN to the TEIN users in Vietnam for research and collaborative work within the TEIN communities”, said Mr Taehee Lee, President of TEIN Cooperation Centre said

In addition to the launching of TEIN4, the 6th VinaREN conference presented updates on activities implemented by VinaREN, shared experiences in the areas of research and education among VinaREN members, as well as map out future development by VinaREN.

Researchers in Vietnam are relying on the advanced high-speed TEIN research network to collaborate with their colleagues in US, EU, Canada, Japan, Korea, China in the field of weather forecast, grid computing, telemedicine, e-learning. Besides, the TEIN network will enable Vietnam research and education community to cost-effectively collaborate with colleagues across the globe, not only benefiting scientists and researchers but directly improving the lives of everyone.

VinaREN connects to new TEIN network at speed of 622 Mbps, enabling closer collaboration between its researchers and educators and their colleagues around the globe./.
