(VOV) – With 18 gold and 2 bronze medals Vietnam has secured its first place at the July 7 conclusion of the World Vovinam Championships in Paris, France.
This is the third consecutive year Vietnam has finished overall champions.
Their French hosts ranked second with 9 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze medals. The French team also won a style award.
Japan and Bangladesh, this year’s two debutantes, made their mark on the championship, with Bangladesh even winning one bronze medal.
The tournament attracted 232 martial artists representing 24 Vovinam federations in many countries around the world.
Jaques Charprenet, the French Karate Federation’s Vovinam chief, said the tournament was a great opportunity to promote the martial art.
The fourth World Vovinam Championships will be held in Algeria.
