(VOV) – Vietnam attaches great importance to developing the ties of friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Myanmar.
National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung, who is in Nay Pyi Taw for an official visit, confirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy during the July 24 talks with Myanmar’s parliament speaker Khin Aung Myint.
He noted with satisfaction the fine development of Vietnam-Myanmar relations, including the fruitful cooperation between the two legislative bodies, following a Hanoi visit in 2012 by Khin Aung Myint.
He suggested increasing delegation exchanges to share experience in legislation and execution of other legislative functions.
He thanked Myanmar for supporting Vietnam’s bid to host the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly in 2015, and invited Speaker Khin Aung Myint to attend this important political event.
For his part, Speaker Khin Aung Myint spoke highly of Vietnam’s recent development achievements and said both countries need to further their cooperation in all areas to make bilateral ties more substantial, practical and efficient.
He acknowledged Hung’s proposal to enhance links on legislation, supervision and parliamentary diplomacy between the Vietnam National Assembly and the Myanmar Parliament.
He also proposed that the newly established Vietnam-Myanmar and Myanmar-Vietnam friendship parliamentary groups will perform their role effectively, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
Both host and guest concurred that the two legislative bodies will co-ordinate closely to oversee the implementation of the agreements between the two governments to make them more effective.
They also agreed to work closely at inter-parliamentary forums, especially within the IPU and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
The two chief legislators signed a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam National Assembly and the Myanmar Parliament, saying it will lay a firm legal foundation for carrying out future cooperation programmes between the two sides.
