(VOV) – The National Agency for Science and Technology Information and the Ministry of Science and Technology officially inaugurated the fourth phase of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN4) in Hanoi on July 5.

The TEIN comprises four stages and ultimately aims to develop high-capacity information network infrastructure to strengthen science and research activities in Asia and Europe.

Vietnam officially connected to the TEIN network’s second phase in 2006 and immediately established the Vietnam Research and Education Network (VinaREN) to improve domestic science and technology understanding and innovation.

The VinaRen has helped connect local research and training institutions to the regional and international research community, promoting cooperation and collaboration on a global scale that directly feeds back into the country’s industrialisation and modernisation process.

Vietnam began preparing for TEIN’s fourth phase last year, wanting to contribute to international research projects on healthcare, meteorology and agriculture.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Science and Technology Minister Tran Viet Thanh, cited Vietnam’s TEIN4 connection as proof of the effort the country has invested in information infrastructure development and interregional connectivity.

Thanh said inaugurating TEIN4 is a landmark of national scientific and technological progress. He asked the VinaREN network and Vietnam’s science and technology community to make use of TEIN4′s advantages effectively and improve VinaREN’s over the 2014-2020 period.
