This is the third time a Vietnamese movie has received funding from WCF and all the funded movies are products of Phan Dang Di. In 2008, “Bi, Dung So” (Bi, don’t be afraid) also directed by Di was funded with EUR 50,000. 4 years later, “Dap Canh Giua Khong Trung” (Winging In The Sky) produced by Di and directed by Vu Hoang Diep continued to get EUR 50,000 from WCF.
To be starred by Do Hai Yen and Truong The Vinh and shot at the end of this year, “Cha, con va…” is one of the 130 films from 48 countries receiving the fund.
Formed in 2004 by one of the biggest film festivals in Europe, Berlin Film Festival, World Cinema Fund works to develop and support cinema in regions with a disadvantaged film infrastructure as well as films that could not be made without additional funding, for example, films that stand out with an unconventional aesthetic approach, that tell powerful stories and transmit an authentic image of their cultural roots.
The World Cinema Fund has an annual budget of approximately 400,000 EUR and supports exclusively the production and distribution of feature films and feature-length documentaries from Latin America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and the Caucasus.
