Binh Duong drug trafficking ring busted, heroin seized

BINH DUONG (VNS)— Police in the southern province of Binh Duong yesterday announced the discovery of a large-scale drug trafficking ring.


They seized 34 heroine cakes and more than one kilo of methamphetamine, also called crystal meth, a powerful stimulant that can be swallowed, snorted or injected.


Previously, the investigation team of the provincial police caught Ngo Thi My Van, 49, transporting two cakes of heroine on an expressway in My Phuoc – Tan Van. Three mobile phones, one motorbike and cash were also seized for investigation.


In a related investigation on the same afternoon, the team also arrested Le Dinh Kiem after they uncovered a plastic box and a silver paper containing heroine and nearly US$194,000 in his possession.


Police immediately seized 32 heroine cakes and one kilo of crystal myth after Kiem admitted hiding a large amount of heroine in a house in Phu Loi District, Thu Dau Mot, Binh Duong Province.


Also, in mountainous Son La Province’s Phu Yen District, police caught three men illegally transporting 6,000 pills of synthetic heroine on Tuesday.


The men, aged between 26 and 33, were riding on motorbikes from Moc Chau District to Phu Yen District. They wrapped the pills in 30 nylon bags and hid them inside two helmets. Police confiscated their mobile phones and motorbikes, along with the heroine, for investigation.


According to a report from the Ministry of Public Security, police have investigated 10,000 drug trafficking related cases in the first half of this year, arresting 15,000 people.


Under Viet Nam law, smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin, or producing or selling 100 grams of heroin will result in the death penalty. — VNS
