(VOV) - Vietnam is seen as one of the ten potential economies in the world selected by Denmark for the target of raising two-way trade to US$1 billion in the near future, said Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt.
At their talks on September 19, President Truong Tan Sang and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt consented to lift Vietnam-Denmark strategic partnership in some areas to a comprehensive partnership for mutual benefit.
The two leaders informed each other about the development situation in their respective countries and discussed measures to further strengthen bilateral relations in the time to come.

Vietnam-Denmark relations have made great strides, providing a springboard for expanding the strategic partnership framework on climate change, energy, the environment and green growth.
The two sides agreed to establish a comprehensive partnership with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation far and wide in priotized area such as politics-diplomacy, trade-investment, climate-energy-environment-green growth, education-research, culture and people-to-people exchange.
They expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of economic, trade and investment ties over the years and agreed to closely work for effective cooperation in these fields commensurate with their full potential.
Vietnam is willing to encourage and create the best possible conditions for Danish businesses to run investments in key areas like wind power energy, maritime transport and food, Sang said
The Vietnamese State leader asked the Danish government to continue supporting Vietnam in carrying out development cooperation programmes and projects on the country’s key areas such as climate change adaptation, administrative reform, environmental hygiene and vocational training, helping it successfully implement the national process of socio-economic development and international integration.
Host and guest also compared notes on international and regional issues of common concern.
The Danish PM affirmed that her country continues attaching importance to the Asia-Pacific region in its overall external policy and voiced support for peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea in line with international law.
President Sang suggested Denmark support Vietnam in boosting comprehensive relations with the EU, speeding up EU approval of the Partnership Cooperation Agreement (PCA) as well as Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Vietnam and the EU.
Vietnam will push up relations between ASEAN- EU and ASEAN-Denmark, Sang added.
After their talks, President Sang and PM Helle Thorning Schmidt hold a press briefing and witnessed the signing of a joint statement on Vietnam-Denmark comprehensive partnership, a framework agreement on Denmark’s preferential credits for Vietnam and some cooperation documents on education-training, wind power energy, sustainable aquaculture and water management.
