(VOV) – The World Bank (WB) has approved official development assistance (ODA) totalling US$100 million to improve the primary school preparations offered to children currently attending kindergarten.

The Ministry of Education and Training announced the funding at a September 19 conference in Hanoi.

The project will train more than 230,000 kindergarten managers and teachers to update their educational methods, assist 800,000 children between the ages of three and five who are living in difficult circumstances, and review the quality of education provided by 5,400 kindergartens.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia said this is Vietnam’s first ODA project specifically tailored to kindergarten education.

The first phase’s funding will be disbursed in the state budget – allocated to provincial and city budgets – while the remainder will be used to revise pre-school education policies.
