(VOV) – Vietnam-Malaysia Friendship Association Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung emphasised recent trade success at a September 12 meeting marking Malaysian National Day in Ho Chi Minh City.

Nhung announced that in the face of regional and global economic difficulties, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Malaysia steadily increased from US$4.1 billion in 2009 to US$7.9 billion in 2012.

She summarised the successes of the two countries’ friendship and cooperation over the past 40 years, spanning politics, security, national defence, economics, trade, culture, education, tourism, and labour.

Malaysia is HCM City’s biggest foreign investor, boasting 177 projects capitalised at US$5.9 billion.

Malaysian Consul General in HCM City Shazryll Zahiran concurred with Nhung’s positive assessments of the two countries’ relationship.

He said a diverse range of diplomatic agreements and a joint declaration on comprehensive cooperation in the 21st century has established the firm foundations necessary for promoting bilateral ties for mutual benefit.

Both Nhung and Shazryll expressed their belief that friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam will be further developed in the future.
