Ho Chi Minh city Red Cross spends hundreds of billions of VND on practical activities

In 2008-2012, the Ho Chi Minh city Red Cross conducted diverse practical activities to help the poor and unfortunate people.

Of which, the agency gave medical check-ups and medicines worth over VND63 billion to poor people, provided meals for 576 elderly people per month, and encouraged nearly 1.5 million people to donate blood, satisfying 80% of the demand for blood in hospitals in the city.

Other humanitarian activities were also carried out across the city, including building over 1,700 houses for beneficiaries and the poor and repairing 628 others, building 12 concrete bridges, granting 21,000 scholarships, presenting 10,194 wheelchairs, helping 1,420 people have jobs and over 2,500 poor young people access vocational training, and seeking relatives of 100 missing in war.


The agency also joined in urgent rescue work, including assisting Japanese victims of earthquake and tsunami in 2011 with over VND22 billion and Vietnamese victims of storms and floods with over VND5 billion./.
