VGP – Japan will provide an official development assistance (ODA) worth US$500 million for some infrastructure projects in Viet Nam in the 2013 fiscal year.
This information was released on September 12 by Japanese FM Fumio Kishida at the 5th Viet Nam – Japan Cooperation Committee meeting in Tokyo.
At the meeting, FM Pham Binh Minh and FM Fumio Kishida agreed to further strengthen the strategic partnership and launch projects to build infrastructure in Viet Nam.
They acknowledged the active development in the relations between the two nations and applauded specific achievements in realizing the signed agreements.
Besides, the FMs agreed to implement the Viet Nam-Japan Joint Initiative to improve the investment environment in Viet Nam, especially when Japan is currently the largest investor in Viet Nam with 1,200 businesses in operation.
Minister Pham Binh Minh stated that the Vietnamese Government is making efforts to speed up the economic reform process towards sustainable development, improve the investment environment and create possible conditions for foreign investors in Viet Nam.
He highly appreciated the cooperation given by Japan through ODA provision over the past 20 years.
For his side, Minister Kishida unveiled that besides ODA, Japan will cooperate with Viet Nam in upgrading infrastructure in the form of Private-Public Partnership.
The two nations will enhance linkages between education institutes to improve the quality of young human resources.
The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in politics-security and regional issues as well as enhanced cooperation at regional forums, the progress of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) talks and the establishment of an ASEAN Community.
They were unanimous in organizing the sixth Viet Nam – Japan Cooperation Committee meeting in Viet Nam in June, 2014.
