The activity was part of the movement “Women assist each other in development of household economy” which was launched earlier by the Vietnam’s Women Union Central Committee, in order to encourage internal strength among women and restrict the dependence on loans from external sources.
In Kon Tum province, among 19,000 women who escaped poverty in the 2011-2013 period, 2,000 families strived to become prosperous ones.

In the 2011-2013 period, the Women’s Union of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum entrusted loans worth over VND57 billion to over 28,000 women, assisting 19,000 women in escaping poverty, including 6,000 ethnic minority women.

Under the movement, women help each other in diverse ways, including providing loans, working days, plant seeds, animals, production knowledge and experience.
The women contributed nearly VND6.5 billion, over 1,000 units of gold, 9,000 animals and plant seeds, over 16 tonnes of rice, and over 100,000 working days to help 14,000 poor women and those who live near the poverty line; and build 48 houses of charity for disadvantaged women./.
