VGP – From 2013-2016, Switzerland will increase 50% of the budget to CHF123 million (US$130 million) for Viet Nam and shift the cooperation focus of the two countries to economic development.

The information was announced by the Embassy of Switzerland in Viet Nam and Ministry of Planning and Investment in a recent ceremony for publishing the Switzerland’s Development Cooperation Program with the Southeast Asian country between 2013 and 2016.

The program was designed to suit Viet Nam’s objective of becoming an industrialized nation with medium income by 2020.

Accordingly, Switzerland will focus on expanding economic cooperation with Viet Nam, especially in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to better access to capital.

In addition, in the next four years, Switzerland will continue but gradually reduce its development assistance for poverty reduction.

By the end of 2012, Switzerland had offered US$360 million for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development and reform program.

Investment by Swiss enterprises in Viet Nam exceeded US$2 billion in 2012, making Switzerland one of the leading European investors in Viet Nam./.
